MERCURY AND CHIRON/ERIS: In writing about last month’s Full Moon a few weeks ago, I explained that the lunation was activating the effects of the upcoming Chiron-Eris conjunction (exact for the first time on May 26). Both Chiron and Eris are known for revealing unpleasant truths and stirring deep reactions. We have certainly seen much evidence of their combined influence over these past few weeks.
This week, with Mercury conjunct both Chiron and Eris, more revelations are likely. As truths emerge and challenge what we thought we knew, some might respond with resentment, blame, and deep anger. It will be important to remember that such disclosures—and the public outcry and grassroots movements they give birth to—are a necessary step before healing (Chiron) and the righting of wrongs (Eris) can begin.
ETA AQUARIID METEORS: The Eta Aquariid meteor showers that grace our skies from mid-April through the end of May each year are predicted to peak this week, being most visible in the pre-dawn hours of May 5 and 6. The meteors take their name from the star Eta Aquarii in the constellation of Aquarius, since they appear to radiate from that star. Known for their exceptional speed, these meteors are debris particles from the nucleus of Halley's comet, which has an orbit of about 76 years and was last closest to the Earth in 1985-86.
Since ancient times, meteors have been seen as portents of major change, similar to how we experience eclipses. As the comet fragments burn up in the Earth's atmosphere, they invite us to release our own debris: old habits, outdated beliefs, and emotional baggage.
These cosmic messengers can bring inspiration and life-changing epiphanies, while also reminding us of our connection to the Universe. Some people report an increase in lucid dreaming and astral traveling when meteor showers peak.
ASPECTS THIS WEEK: Here are my brief interpretations of this week's most important individual planetary aspects, day by day:
Monday
Mercury sextile Jupiter: Conversations flow easily and may cover a wide variety of topics. This aspect supports learning something new, teaching what we know, and speaking our truth.
Tuesday
Sun semisquare Neptune: We may experience some confusion or feel ungrounded today. Misunderstandings or errors in judgment are possible.
Venus sextile Pluto: Opportunities arise to deepen a relationship. Secrets may be revealed.
Mercury conjunct Chiron: We may feel insecure in our ability to express ourselves clearly, distrust our own ideas, feel misunderstood, or be especially sensitive to the words of others. As always with Chiron aspects, this one advises us not to judge ourselves as inadequate, but to realize that there is a part of us, a younger self, who needs our unconditional love, acceptance, and understanding. Topics of conversation could include wounds that have their roots in a childhood experience.
Wednesday
Mercury conjunct Eris: Truths are told, dissent is rampant, debates and controversies are heated, and people are opinionated, assertive, or reactive. Issues of free speech may arise. The mind is focused on what isn't working and may tend to complain or blame.Thursday
No major aspects are exact today.
Friday
No major aspects are exact today.
Saturday
Mercury enters Taurus: Mercury is moving quickly now and will travel through all 30 degrees of earthy Taurus in just over two weeks. From May 10 to 25, decisions are guided by practical concerns but we could be unwilling to think outside the box. The mind prefers to focus on one concept at a time and can stubbornly resist new and unfamiliar ideas.
Sunday
No major aspects are exact today.

If Your Birthday Is This Week (May 5 to 11):
You are emerging from a period of intensified change that encouraged you to rebel against restrictions, to discover who you truly are, and to find out what "living an authentic life" means for you. Looking back, you may now see how you reinvented yourself and reimagined some area of your life. This year continues the theme in a bit gentler way, offering new experiences that will help you know more about who you are deep within, and what you really want for yourself. Along the way, you may realize that certain relationships, possessions, and values need to be altered. This can be challenging since it requires that you be open to change and let go of attachment to the status quo. (Solar Return Sun semisquare Venus, conjunct Uranus)
